Post-Production Photography

 Bookings

I will book the studio for two or three days in December and January. First, I will ask Elma to contact the models to see what time they will be available on the last week before we break up for the Christmas Holiday.

I hope that we all do not catch a flu, it is quite cold this November and everyone is getting ill. Please, models wrap up warm so you can be available when we call you for the post-production shoot.

Editing Day 3

 Editing Everything

(main focus today is on the Journey of the actress, TV Studio and the ending)

The footages are all on Final cut pro

We edited the Canteen scene which we changed to a corridor in college we had to cut the POV shot  and also Akyni's journey to make it look plausible.  And the ending of the promo video by cutting the footage with all of the three actors dancing, we used two different angles so we had to merge those together. We wanted to add a split screen but we decided to remove it because it was not  looking good instead we may use monochrome effect or consider something else.

You just have to wait to see  E.M.V Productions in the screening, including other Music Promo video and various genres of Short Films.
We hope to have some feedback from our target audience.

Date: Tuesday 25th November.

Location: In College, Room A9/
The Editing Suite

Time:10:20am - 11:30am

Editing Day 2

Marsh Lane Editing

We had to cut from the unsteady movement using  hand held camera shot from Prince Regent  and Marsh lane smooth pan so it looks like a wipe wipe transitioning from Prince Regent to Marsh Lane.

Final Cut Pro Effects

Gamma correction was included in these filming because it was brighter here but as the time flew by it became quite dark in the other filming of marsh lane.

Gamma Correction was not added here it was dark in this shooting. If we made it brighter it would look grey and if we use contrast it will look even more darker because Akyni was wearing black. My group cut a some of the shot when the actor drops the ball.

There is not enough lip syncing, I thought my group told the actor to lip sync the end of the chorus, However, if we have enough studio and the brick wall shoot to fill the time from the video.  Our Teacher Amy suggested that if we have time we could get the actor lip syncing the whole lyrics and then we have enough footage. Or we could make it a performance based video rather than narrative with the actors dancing and one person lip syncing. We have a few clips in our folder we hope that there is enough footage for lip syncing of the studio.

 TV Studio Editing

Both actors are lip syncing, we had to cut from one actor to another. (Euwan to Robert and back)
The lighting was perfect here, the problems were when we tried to fit the lip syncing with the song on. We listened to it a several times then we had to cut from where the first ballad was finished to when the next actor should lip sync.

College Editing

(Brick Wall and Green Cargo)

We added text to the video, and added a white font we wanted to make it more creative, but we wanted our target audience feedback so we asked a few people in our class. They think we should add a bright colour or edit the font with kente similar to the patterns and colours on the black customised costume. I asked my friends and they want it to be red and others want it to be white but in a fancy font style.

TV Studio Call Sheet

Studio Call Sheet

New Actors

Earlier this week Elma and Marvellous asked their friends Euwan, Robert and Akiniyi to feature in our music promo video, they had to plead with them, as they have other commitments but they were willing to lip sync, act and dance!

In this video the boys are lip syncing the lyrics 'Vibe Squad' even though they are not fully in sync we can edit this on Final Cut Pro. As long as the timing of the lip sync is in time with the song.

As you can see we changed locations from the shop shutter to a brick wall and a green cargo back. That was because we do not have enough time to travel to the shutter and back so we have to use the location that is on our footsteps. I spoke to one of my friends Ben and Kwamz who fit our target audience this week their feedback was that they like the idea of the brick wall because it looks much more realistic for a guy to wait for his friend than to wait at a shop shutter. In addition my response was would they want to see more dancing or more lip syncing because it is a music video and not a film so should we move away from the narrative.  Teresa says that she wants both but more of the dancing. I assume that they want a performance based video.

I explained that we researched a few promo music videos and I hope that we would use some of the ideas from my video from my case study for example 'Zagada' and 'It's on again'  is mainly performance and conceptual based not really focused on the narrative. I will feedback to my team and see what we can change to make our filming engage to our audience.

The artists are lip syncing on camera, they seem camera shy and nervous. Their lip syncing was off  but we will not give up, they will be much confident if they learn the lyrics. We will be filming tomorrow and on Friday. They will have to learn it before these days.

Filming and Editing Finalising

Due to the actors being busy with rehearsal and have many commitment we have not had any progress with filming also outside factors such as weather and the sun setting faster so it does get darker this deters actors and us from getting good lighting.

We hope to find two male actors and an actress. We have 5 days for filming hopefully we get enough footage.
  • Thursday 21st at 12:50pm-13:50pm and 15:10pm-16:20pm
  • Friday 21st 13:50pm-15:10pm
  • Next Monday 24th  9:00am-10:20am and 11:40am-13:50pm

Next week Tuesday we will screen our product to the class.
We need to make a contingency for our lack of filming in previous weeks. Hopefully we are able to get our filming finished by the end of this week. If we do not get enough of the lip syncing we may have to focus less on the narrative and change it to a conceptual and performance based promo video. I believe that we should not leave all of the editing to the deadline so we should edit after we film. So we can focus on the effects and transitioning during the last few days of editing.

Filming - Day 3

Calling all main actors

Changes! Shop shutter to a Green background!

Today we were going to shoot outside but it was running from 7am and it stopped raining at 1pm it was too late to go to our shop shutter location because our actors were not able to stay for an hour. One of our actors was not present, we wanted to also do the chase scene when the two males see the female actor walking past in the canteen, we decided that we will not use the canteen scene we can use a corridor scene in college instead because it will be very busy in the canteen

Osagie, Marvellous, and Michael
Osagie fresh prince of  bel air  high top hair seem to be in my frame.
I am not certain about the DSLR camera frame.
I hope this will not be a problem, we can just move the tripod back  a feet or two.

Osagie and Michael bonding and rehearsing their actions.
We are directing them to act like they are best friends and they just saw each
other, they lip sync and dance.

Location Changes!

We have changed the location from the shop shutter to college location because our actors are not willing to travel far to film and they will not be available in the weekends. We will be using the green tin cargo background and the orange and yellow brick wall. Due to our new actors clashes with timetable and reliability college location seems to be the best solution as our deadline for filming is soon.

Long shot of  the cargo

Wide shot of the brick wall where both actors will be standing.

Actors Complications

We planned to create a call sheet for this week but one of our actors had a production to rehearse for and he was not available when we needed him. I had to contact another male who would be willing to do it, Osagie is reliable and is willing to lip sync but not dance or act, I persuaded him to do it even though he Afrobeat is not his cup of tea. I printed out a lyric sheet for him and sent him the song via whatsapp.

Editing Day 1

  • Only 30 seconds needed for Prince Regent.
  • Editing notes used from the music promo practical task was useful.
  • No lip sync, just the song and dancers.
  • We had to use the best footage from Prince Regent station which made it easier to edit.
  • We could improve the 30 minutes by moving each footage of where the choreography suits the part of the lyrics where it says 'Drop'  it will be quite cool if it was in sync with the song.

On the left hand are the remaining footages that we have from prince regent when it we filmed in the alley next to Prince Regent to have a practice run of the dancers choreography.

We cut from the short panning  to the next choreography on  the concrete floor.

DROP! We have a pan here with a fast transitioning from to the next location which is Marsh Lane.

Prince Regent Call Sheet 2

Day 2 of filming, we have permission for filming  in this location but we are not allowed to use a tripod next to the stairs where the public will be passing. When we are using handheld we can turn on the stabilizer to make our panning less unstable and shaky.

Filming - Day 2

TV Studio

It is lunch time!

We are about to film with Michael, he does not know the chorus well, He kindly asked me to print out another lyric sheet to familiarise himself with the lyrics on paper. I am back in the Studio and the team tuned into the Vibe squad in the Sound room. The music is blasting out. Michael is comfortable and looking confident about his role. I am not sure where Shaun is? Well I asked the team, they contacted him so he should be here, he is probably in a lesson.

Now, I need to go now!

I have to film!

Location Release For Prince Regent Station

We are allowed to film at Prince Regent Station with our own cameras if it is not for commercial use  but we are not allowed to use a tripod for safety reasons.

Filming - Day 1

Prince Regent Station

London will be chilly in the evening, bring your sweaters and jumpers
gloves, hats, scarf, socks, get rid of the sandles, flip flops and flats!

We were filming the dancers on a tranquille path. To have a practice run on their choreography.

One of our dancers getting ready to dance.

Complications during filming
When we were at Prince Regent Station we were not allowed to film, we had to film near the station.
It was problematic to film from 4:30 pm because this is the time that it began to get dark. Also the weather was extremely cold, so we had to give the dancers their coats to keep warm. While filming there were people walking on this path who were in our frame, so Elma went to the far background in the frame and kindly asked them to walk on their far right. In addition we had problems with the tripod, we wanted to do a smooth tilt without cutting out the the dancer in the frame but we did not know that we could extend the tripod. We asked the technician when we got back to college, it solved the problem.

New Actors & Planning

Today we were able to audition Shaun from the performing arts and he is prepared to lip sync, dance and act, but his timetable is quite tight. I spoke to Michael two weeks ago but he was not certain about the genre but he seemed pleased about the dancing and acting due to not knowing the lyrics well, I printed out the lyric sheet and gave it to him hoping that he makes some time to learn the lyrics.

Recently he contacted  Elma and Marvellous because he was interested to lip sync, dance or act. We will ask if he is allowed out of lesson because his lesson can sometimes run through lunch breaks or if we cannot get him for the canteen shoot, I think that we could do it in the morning during college or after college so that we have less people in the video because besides lunch times can get crowed.

We have Michael and Shaun, now!
